Saying a final goodbye to a loved one is never easy. It can be one of the most daunting and challenging circumstances we have to encounter in life. Whether we can prepare for someone’s passing or we find ourselves are faced with a sudden loss, the reality of losing someone close and taking on the responsibility of what happens afterwards, can at times feel overwhelming.
My name is Ann Halstead, I am an experienced independent funeral celebrant, here to guide you through those uncertain times and to create a bespoke funeral service which not only honours your loved one but also those they leave behind.
As a passionate writer and anecdotalist, I will create and deliver a deeply meaningful ceremony through the sharing of cherished memories, reflection time and importantly, celebrating your loved one’s journey through life. From those born sleeping to the centenarian, every life is unique, every life holds a story to be told and every life deserves to be remembered.
A truly personal farewell to a loved one provides us with a unique opportunity to offer a beautiful parting gift to express our gratitude for the life they shared with us. Those who have passed may have left us with clear ideas of what they want at their own funeral, however, sometimes it may be left to us to decide. I can adapt ceremonies to fit many situations such as traditional, spiritual, non-religious or with religious aspects. It may be that you choose a more light-hearted ceremony with humour or even a theme, the choice will always remain yours.
With compassion and empathy my ceremonies are tailored made to your requirements, whatever your beliefs, you can be assured of a friendly, respectful, professional service. Whether you would like me to conduct the whole service for you from start to finish and/or be there to support and hold space for those who wish to speak at the funeral, together we will capture all those wonderful memories to create a fitting tribute.
What happens next?
You can contact me direct or if you prefer, give your chosen Funeral Home my contact details (below).
We will arrange an initial meeting for me to come and see you and any family members/friends that you wish to have present. The meeting will last anywhere between 1-2 hours and after taking some initial details, we will chat about your requirements and any funeral wishes that you would like or that your loved one specified. We will also spend some time chatting about their life. My aim is to capture their essence so I can create a bespoke service which captures the journey they have taken in life and their personality.
Here are some things you may like to consider including in the ceremony:
-
- Poetry – a favourite poem or one that is a fitting tribute.
-
- Personal stories
-
- A hymn and/or prayer
-
- A reading
-
- Is there anyone who would like to be involved in speaking at the service?
-
- Choice of music – usually a service has 3 pieces of music, one to enter by, one for the reflection period and a piece of music to leave by. Music these days doesn’t have to be traditional, you can choose favourite pieces and upbeat, uplifting pieces to bring about a smile if you wish.
-
- A photo or video slideshow for reflection – your funeral home will organise this for you.
-
- Also consider the dress code. Did your loved one have a favourite colour? Did they have a bright personality? Traditional dress or colourful, it’s your choice.
On the day of the funeral, I will there to greet you as you arrive and to lead you in to the chapel.
As my client, you are my number one priority. I am here to guide and support you every step of the way.
